The process
Step 1 - Contact
It is helpful when you contact me for a potential assignment to include a date, budget, and event details right away, along with a mood board. This gives me a clear idea of your request. A non-committal conversation is always possible.
Step 1 - Sketch
Based on the moodboard and our first conversation, we will create a sketch. Once the sketch is finished, we’ll get in touch to discuss any adjustments and check if there are any new wishes or ideas. I will then prepare a quotation, and once it has been approved, we’ll move on to step 3.
Step 2 - Measurements
There are two options available. My preference is to take the measurements on location myself. Alternatively, we can do it via a video call with a plus-one who can measure you accurately while I supervise to ensure it’s done correctly.
Step 3 - Fabric
During the sketching phase, we already formed an idea of the fabric choices. Now it's time to go fabric shopping together in-store to see what your preferences are—unless you already selected a fabric sample during the measuring session.
Step 4 - Making of the mock-up dress
Now it's time to start the making process. We begin with a mock-up, usually made from a more affordable fabric, so we can do a precise fitting. After this fitting session, we’ll apply all the necessary adjustments to the pattern, and then it’s time to cut and create the final piece from the chosen fabric.
Step 6 - Finishing touch
After fitting the mock-up, we’ll create the dress using the final fabric. Then it’s time to sew on all the embellishments. Once that’s done, we’ll move on to the final step.
Step 7 - Final fitting
This step is essentially to make sure everything meets your wishes, and if that’s the case, you can take it home right away.
